RideOn is Montgomery County’s major public transportation system. It’s mobile application allows users to manage and plan their journeys around the city. The mobile application runs on both Android and IOS smartphones.
Goal
Research about the current experience from users standpoint, understand their pain points and recreate the app based on my findings.
RESEARCH
To be able to determine the pain points within the application, it was important to understand exactly how users interact with the app and the situations & scenarios in which they use it.
To do this effectively, two main questions were asked
How are people using the app?
What specific issues frustrate users? By asking those questions, I was able to determine the two main ways people use the app:
Checking arrival times at their nearest stop
Plotting a route to reach a new location
I wish there was a way to access and credit my bus card through the app.
Feedback is gotten from comments left by users on the store page of the app. This feedback proved some of the application’s shortcomings.
UX Analysis
Based on the feedback gained from the research, I was able to evidently understand the pain points throughout the application. So I did a UX analysis on the current application to explore some of the faults.
Through my UX analysis, the application left me with a lot to desire in terms of usability improvements. Although the interface looks similar on both Android and IOS devices, but a modern, aesthetic, and coherent visual design would have to be implemented.
Persona
Now that I have a clear understanding of who my audiences are and their pain point, I created a persona.
User Flow
Before the process of wireframing, it can be useful to map out the surface-level pages of the application to get a global view of the navigation system throughout the app.
