The instant quote engine is an AI-Powered on-demand manufacturing platform that provides instant prices/quotes for production Engineers and Manufacturers based on their 3D Models.
The Challenges
We don’t believe we can achieve our growth goals in the future with our current UI configuration and constraints. Same look and feel as our vertically integrated competitors – not differentiated.
Our current UI and approach don’t address the many use cases that make up the $260 billion TAM (Total Addressable Market).
We are usually not the fastest or cheapest.
Even though we don’t offer that much, our customers still struggle to access our full capabilities.
Adding processes, features, materials, finishes, etc is too cumbersome and inefficient.
Despite our marketplace / asset-light approach, our offering is not that wide

Pain Points
“We need to allow customers to view and submit revision requests to quotes that have been manually reviewed from their dashboard. Right now they can’t even share the quote or print the PDF, much less request changes to the quoted options.”
“We need a more collaborative website for large companies. Increasing the functionality of the “Share” button would solve a lot of this.”
The customer should be able to identify when a quote needs a new file, needs them to choose a requirement, or needs to be manually quoted.
Xometry will be able to show different DFM Feedback and quoting states depending on the customer segment (gmail users should not be able to submit certain manual quotes).
The customer can identify DFM feedback and what actions they should take because of that DFM feedback. For instance, we change Manual Quote Required to Revised File Needed when we know we need a new file in order to quote.
Problem Definition
Solution
Users clearly see more available options and can define their own requirements. Users engage with useful feedback and time-saving tools to configure their quotes. Users can easily compare offerings and make informed decisions. Users can easily discover new offerings that are relevant to their needs. Xometry is uniquely positioned as being different from vertically integrated competitors in the market.

Usability Testing
The main goal of the test was to better understand the user experience of the new design and some new elements like copying a quote from the quote summary page and bulk modification of multiple parts at once. The results of this test will be used to further validate and improve the designs of this feature before launch.
Methodology
We recruited Purchasing Managers, Procurement Members, Owner of a Bulk Sports Equipment and Apparel, and Procurement Supervisors in Automotive to participate in the test.
Findings and Recommendations
All participants were able to complete the entire useability test. On most occasions, participants mentioned that the “Copy Quote” button was easy to find, straightforward, typical, and good with one outlier, their first instinct was to navigate to the part details and look for an option there, but indicated that this button would be easy to find after the first time experience. Most participants indicated that this experience was similar to their other experiences or better than ones they currently use. Some of the findings are:
The visibility of the checkbox for selecting a part seems to be difficult. Recommendation: Increase the contrast color of the checkbox. Add padding around the checkbox to visually separate the checkbox action from part details. Most users were able to find the “Select All” button, however, they initially focused on the next checkbox or around the vertical checkbox column. Recommendation: Include a “Select All” option at the top by the first part checkbox in order to keep user focused in that area only when a part has already been selected. Moving the action buttons here as well only after selection could help with this experience. The language of “Bulk Configure” was confusing to at least 1 user, unsure whether this is just an outlier. Recommendation: Update the language of the button to better indicate the modification of all parts. Discoverability of the “Bulk Configure” was difficult for some users. Recommendation: Better distinguish buttons in the action area including, select all, bulk configure, and delete all so they all do not follow the same format.

Ideation
The purpose of this ideation exercise is to evaluate the problems and create some hypotheses/constraints and ideate based on these hypotheses.
